The Robert Thomas Carriage Museum

The Robert Thomas Carriage Museum is one of the only free public museums of its type in Virginia. Its collection of 28 horse drawn vehicles have been intricately restored and researched by Mr. Ted Hughes of Chalklevel Carriage and Buggy Works in Piney River, Virginia. The carriages and buggies represent every walk of life from farmer to wealthy aristocrat. The collection is displayed in a carriage house style setting complete with guides and interpretive signs that give a glimpse into the horse drawn era. Unique period accessories and tools are also displayed throughout the museum. Robert Thomas III will conduct tours on a full time basis beginning June of 2010. Sunday hours are 1pm - 5 pm and Monday through Saturday hours are listed below.
