Located in the heart of historic downtown Richmond known as the Court End neighborhood, the Valentine collects, preserves and interprets Richmond's unique stories through exhibitions, programs, guided tours, events and stewardship of the Wickham House. Built by prominent attorney John Wickham in 1812, the house is a spectacular example of 19th century Federal architecture. Listed as a National Historic Landmark, the Wickham House was designated as a museum of Richmond history in the will of Mann Valentine Jr., the home's last private owner. In 1898, it became the first home of the Valentine Museum. In keeping with Mann Valentine's wishes, the museum has amassed an extensive collection of costumes, textiles, objects, photographs, artwork and ephemera related to the region's 400-year history.  Th Edward V. Valentine Sculpture Studio is one of only five surviving 19th century scultpure studios in the U.S. that is open to the public.  Sally Bell's Kitchen is a locally owned eatery has been serving homemade sandwiches, salads and desserts to Richmond residents for almost nine decades.  Lunch is served Monday-Friday in the Valentine Garden.
