The new Adventures in Flight Gallery highlights the origins of flight and Hampton Roads’significant role in commercial, general and military aviation.
Visitors can take an aviation adventure from the origins of flight to the future of flight. They can “wing walk”on a recreated Jenny, see a replica of the 1903 Wright Flyer, explore a DC-9, take off and land on a US Navy carrier, ride in a World War II bomber, become an air traffic controller, build an airplane, sit inside the cockpit of a FA-22, and test their flying skills with a variety of simulators.
The Commercial and Civil Aviation area feature an AirTran Airways DC-9 complete with interactive exhibits. A B-24 motion simulator allows visitors to feel what it was like to be a World War II bomber.
