The Virginia Historical Society is a history museum, research library, and educational facility all in one. The 179-year-old VHS features award-winning museum exhibitions about all kinds of Virginia-related topics. The VHS is the only museum with all of Virginia’s history under one roof—all centuries, all regions, and all topics are covered.

The vast collections includes 8 million manuscripts; 150,000 books; over 5,000 maps; 1,200 newspaper titles; 4,000 pieces of sheet music; more than 1,000 paintings; 200,000 photographs; and more than 25,000 museum objects including textiles, silver, furniture, weaponry, and more.

The VHS is open Tuesday-Saturday 10a-5p and Sunday 1-5p. Admission is FREE. Visit www.vahistorical.org for more information about programs, genealogy research, exhibits, the library, museum shop, and membership.
