Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR) is a nonprofit organization that is working to protect and promote the Appomattox River. It is sponsored by the Crater Planning District Commission. FOLAR has been developing a network of walking and river trails along the River, from Lake Chesdin dam to Hopewell. Individuals, families, and other organizations are encouraged to volunteer with FOLAR's cleanups and projects.
