Great Bridge Lock Park is a member of the National Park Service’s `Chesapeake Bay Gateways’ Program Network; 19-acre park at transition from Southern Branch of Elizabeth River to Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal along Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, Lock Rd., off Battlefield Blvd., Chesapeake, VA.
Significant Revolutionary War and Civil War historical designations. Park amenities include walking trail; playground; picnic shelters; fishing; two-lane boat ramp; new: observation beam.
Named for Corps of Engineers’ lock, Great Bridge Lock Park boasts a new ADA-accessible observation beam – complete with interpretive signage and an amphitheater for interpretive historic and ecological programs – for spectators to view water traffic transitioning the lock on this busy “water highway.”
