New Point Comfort Nature Preserve and Observation Walkway gives you an intimate look at life at the edge of the Chesapeake Bay. Depending on the tide, this site combines tidal shallows, mudflats, beach, exposed pilings, and deep offshore channels, all of which offer their own assortment of numerous waterbirds, lusty displays of fiddler crabs and yellow Seaside Dragonlets, our only truly saltwater dragonfly. The boardwalk is also an excellent place from which to view the New Point Comfort Lighthouse, the third oldest lighthouse still standing on the Bay. Canoes and kayaks may be launched here for naturalists seeking an intimate view of the marsh and its residents. Located in Mathews County at the southern end of Route 600, Virginia Highway Historical Marker N-89.
