Travelers to the Blue Ridge Parkway will enjoy some of the 30 miles of scenery along this stretch within Carroll County, Virginia. The county offers an easy access the parkway at Fancy Gap from I-77 (Exit 8). Travelers to the parkway may wish to travel north from Fancy Gap to Milepost 189.1 for an elevated perspective (2,950 ft)of the Carolina Piedmont below at an elevation of 1,000 feet. Pilot Mountain, made famous as Andy Griffith's "Mt Pilot" can be seen some 12 miles to the southwest. The overlook typifies the grandeur of what make the Blue Ridge Parkway so popular. Just north of this location is the Groundhog Mountain Scenic Overlook with unique observation tower.
