The South Fork of The Shenandoah River is the principal stream which flows to the northeast where it is joined by the North Fork at Front Royal Virginia. From here, the combined streams meet the Potomac River at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. The old meandering river of "Oh, Shenandoah" fame. Renowned for its beauty and the opportunities offered for fishing and boating. We usually think that rivers flow southward and are surprised to find these headstreams draining in a northeasterly direction. Because of this northeasterly flow you will hear people of The Shenandoah Valley refer to "South" as being "Up" the valley. The South Fork is fed by many streams which tumble down from The Blue Ridge Mountains (The Shenandoah National Park) on the east and the George Washington National Forest on the west. You will find placid, peaceful, sections
