Try your fishing skills in the stocked trout waters of the South River. The South River starts near the village of Greenville and flows 50 miles north and joins the North River to form the South Fork Shenandoah River. As the river enters Waynesboro, fishing opportunities for smallmouth bass, rock bass, and redbreast sunfish begin to pick up. Ridgeview Park is stocked with catchable rainbow and brown trout, and boasts a beautiful fishing pier for handicapped individuals.
After South River spills over Rife Loth Dam, the Commonwealth's first delayed-harvest trout fishery begins. Anglers can catch-and-release brown and rainbow trout from the dam downstream to North Park (October 1 through May 31), then catch-and-keep them the rest of the year.
