Soapstone Sculpting Workshop and Red Lantern Inn Package, September 26, 27, & 28, 2014 Alberene soapstone is harder than Brazilian stone commonly used for sculpture. It is comparable to alabaster and is still shaped with hand tools; primarily rasps, files and specialized small rifflers.Tools are provided for use during the workshop. This native Virginia stone can be finished to a dark gray polished surface. Judith Sivonda is both sculptor and painter started casting and carving in plaster more than 45 years ago. She studied with Wolfgang Behl as an undergraduate at Hartford Art School and also works in alabaster, limestone and marble. Drive or take Amtrak to arrive by Friday evening to check into Red Lantern Inn. Meet at studio from 6 PM to 8PM; Saturday session 10 AM to 4PM with lunch break. Sunday 10 AM to 2PM, break as needed. The school, the inn and the restaurants are within walking distance of one another. $390 or $420* Package price includes instruction, materials and use of tools, and lodging.
