My work is a blend of artistic expression and utilitarian blacksmithing. This means using the construction techniques and functionality of ironwork from the past and adding modern aesthetics. I enjoy combining heavy square iron, with light and gentle scrolls, bends and organic elements. Music and mother nature are big factors in my designs. A particular part to a song,or a new genre of music ever the vines that grow over my shop offer inspiration in the way I move the metal and its final appearance.
I did not expect blacksmithing to be a creative endeavor, however my mother is an amazing painter and my father has very strong skills in machines and mechanics. My work at Old Moneta Ironworks is a mixture of these two things;making beautiful things that work.
One of the most important questions I ask my customers is "which do you prefer, circles or squares" Its more than just a preference of shape,it tells me which direction to take the design.
