Newport News is the perfect place for your group’s “outta sight”, nostalgic getaway! DAY ONE: When the 1960’s began, so did the Vietnam War. Learn about this important time in our history as well as other events that shaped our world at the Virginia War Museum. This expansive gallery is an overview of U.S. military history from 1775 to the present day. Bowling was a great activity for both adults and teens. Bring your group over to Classic Lanes for lunch and a bit of healthy competition…watch out for the gutter ball! Pink Floyd was one of the first bands to play psychedelic music. Hear their music and other classic bands accompanied with incredible laser light shows at the Abbitt Planetarium at the Virginia Living Museum! Experience the new state-of-the-art laser system that splashes brilliant high-color LED laser light all across the entire surface of the dome. DAY TWO: Are you into the hippie or mod look? In the 1960’s, jewelry included love beads, flower power and flapper-length bead necklaces. Create your own look at The Bead Store in the Historic Hilton Village. Next, head over to City Center and shop for a nice outfit to go with your accessories! Connect with your inner “flower child” and stroll through Huntington Park’s American Rose City Rose Garden. The Garden offers a beautifully landscaped area with a scenic gazebo and over 45 different rose varieties. This evening, your group will have the chance to show off their hip look at The Boxwood Inn! Enjoy “dinnertainment” with groovy sixties style as they take you back to a decade that saw a flood of new bands, new fashions and new songs that nudged aside the fifties.
