This rural region offers miles of tranquil country roads winding past meadows and streams. With gentle rolling hills and more challenging terrain, Nelson County has something for all skill levels.
DAY ONE: (Select one) Blue Ridge Parkway Loops Enjoy scenic views along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Ride 22 miles beginning at Royal Oaks Cabins in Love (Milepost 16) and go south to Tye River Gap and back. Or, for a 40-mile ride, head north to Milepost 0 at Afton Mountain. Oak Ridge Loop 29 miles – begin and end at historic Oak Ridge Estate in the parking area where Route 650 becomes Route 653.
DAY TWO: (Select one) Walton’s Mountain Museum Loop 31 miles – Begins and ends at Walton’s Mountain Museum on Route 617 (near Route 800) in Schuyler and winds along the beautiful Rockfish River. Woodson’s Mill Loop Begin and end this 24 mile country tour at historic Woodson’s Mill on Route 778, just off Route 56 in the Lowesville area. Virginia Blue Ridge Railway Trail This 7 mile nearly flat trail follows the rail bed of the former Virginia Blue Ridge Railway along the Piney and Tye Rivers in Nelson and Amherst Counties.
