Roanoke welcomes visitors to enjoy the most popular holiday event, Dickens of a Christmas, occurring annually the first three Fridays in December! Fun and holiday cheer abound with horse-drawn carriage rides, chestnuts roasting by an open fire, and special shopping hours for those one of a kind gifts!

Day 1 (Friday)

Start out the day with a welcome at the Roanoke Valley Visitor Information Center in Downtown Roanoke. Your step-on tour guide will take you up to the Roanoke Star and Overlook, a Roanoke icon that began as a holiday decoration in 1948 to lure Christmas shoppers into the Valley. The guide will drop you off in the Historic Downtown District where you can grab an early dinner before getting into the holiday spirit with the Dickens of a Christmas celebration event! Depending on the Friday you arrive, the activities may highlight the tree lighting, the holiday parade, or even a holiday pet costume contest! Each Friday night you can enjoy late night hours for many of the shops and restaurants, a visit from Santa, and tons of other fun holiday events like caroling, roasting chestnuts, and arts!  Overnight at a nearby hotel.

Day 2 (Saturday)

Wake up to the holiday spirit found at the History Museum of Western Virginia where you can enjoy a time –honored tradition called Fantasyland. Afterwards make your way to the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center to see their "Fashions for Evergreens" exhibit. Vote for your favorite professionally decorated Christmas tree or just enjoy the holiday decorations filled throughout the historic hotel. Wrap up your visit with a lunch in the Regency Room at the Hotel Roanoke known for their famous peanut soup and spoonbread.
