Sign up for a new Multi-day Experiential Food Tour in Alexandria! Integrating historic and cultural sites with visits to local restaurants, markets and distilleries, guests can enjoy local specialties and learn about an area through its people and the food available to them.
Day 1: Begin your tour with a visit to George Washington's Estate. Tour the mansion and grounds and finish your day with a tour and lunch at the Distillery. Head back to historic Alexandria for some downtime. Browse and shop in the variety of boutiques before your evening's plans. Whether you want an waterfront dining experience, a Potomac River cruise or maybe ghosts are more your speed, you're sure to find your stride and settle into life in Alexandria.
Head back to your home base in any of Alexandria's group-friendly hotels and kick up your weary feet. Rest up because day 2 is going to be a good one!
Day 2: Artisanal Old Town: Start the day with a tour of the George Washington Masonic Memorial. Take the elevator up to the 9th floor observatory and grab your camera for a one-of-a-kind view of Alexandria and the surround metro area.
Hopefully the heights of the Memorial have increased your appetite because you're off to start your Artisanal Food Tour. Enjoy any of the specialty shops along King Street, including the olive oil & vinegar shop or perhaps you're more into local cheeses and Virginia wine pairings. Be sure to save room for dessert because you're next stop is at a Chocolate Appreciation Class - and who doesn't appreciate chocolate?
With your belly full consider a side trip to one of Alexandria's more eclectic neighborhoods, Del Ray. Known for its small-town vibe, browse the local shops, restaurants and cafes. Pick up a funky art piece or vintage scarf from the shops in Del Ray.
Or perhaps the cheese and chocolate made you wanting a refreshing beverage to quench your thirst. Head over to Alexandria's first microbrewery, Port City Brewery. Tour the facility to learn about the beer making process. And of course, no beer tour is complete without a sampling of what's on tap. Taste Port City's finest and see why this microbrewery is becoming a favorite in the D.C. area.
All tours and itineraries can be customized based on the groups' budget, age, interest and time constraints. Contact Laurie Bledy at LBledy@VisitAlexVA.com or at (703) 652.5366 for more information or to book your tour.
