Fast Track to Music & Arts Day 1- Start your day in Bristol. Take a self-guided walking tour of historic downtown. You’ll learn about Bristol and its influences on historic events. Enjoy many unique shops, art galleries and local eateries during the day. Bristol Motor Speedway offers track tours, souvenir shop and interactive fan zone for the racing enthusiast. Officially designated as the Birthplace of Country Music by Congress, Bristol remains true to its musical roots. Live music can be found most nights in Bristol and the annual Bristol Rhythm & Roots in September. Day 2- Abingdon, a town with the charm of the 1700’s, known for its arts, history and natural resources. Meet your complimentary step-on guide for a driving tour of the Historic District. A more extensive tour will include stops at the William King Regional Arts Center, The Arts Depot and The Fields-Penn 1860 House Museum. The town has numerous upscale clothing, antique, art and other specialty shops. After dinner at one of our fine restaurants, enjoy a performance at Barter Theatre. Settle in for a night of rest and relaxation, at one of our elegant, historic inns or B&B’s, or one of several comfortable motels. Day 3- Big Stone Gap’s Southwest Virginia Museum, a private home built in the 1800’s, houses artifacts, collections, and exhibits relating to the history and culture of SW Virginia. Harry W. Meador, Jr. Coal Museum houses a variety of items about the region’s coal mining heritage. Visit the Country Cabin in Norton for some great music. Day 4- Begin your day at the Natural Tunnel State Park, built around a long tunnel formed through rock by erosive action of water. Enjoy demonstrations of early farmstead life and learn how settlers lived at the Homeplace Mountain Farm Museum. Travel to the Hiltons to see the First Family of Country Music at the Carter Fold.
