Visitor Information

Located in Southern Virginia, Martinsville-Henry County is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and opening its doors for you to come visit the village of Fieldale.

Enjoy an overnight stay at the historic Virginia Home Inn in one of their eight uniquely decorated rooms, each with private bath. A four p.m. social hour and gourmet breakfast are included in the room rate. If you are interested in history, Inn keeper William Lewis will keep you entertained with lively stories about the community's rich history and inform you about the Inn's eclectic-casual collection of antiques.

After you are settled into your room, you can enjoy a short walk through the quaint town of Fieldale where you can enjoy antique shopping at Fieldale Antiques or partake in a Friday afternoon jam session. You can choose to just listen or bring your fiddle or guitar and join the fun.

Embark on a walking tour of this mill-town built by the late Marshall Fields and discover all the historic points of interest. Copies of the self-guided tour may be picked up at the Martinsville-Henry County Visitor Center.

Located just one mile from the inn is the scenic Smith River, a perfect destination for fly-fishing and paddling. There's actually more than 44 miles of river for you to enjoy.

Along the Smith River you'll find 3.5 miles of meandering trail called the Fieldale Trail which is part of the 20-mile network of trails in the Smith River Trail System. Enjoy a bike ride, walk or bird watching.

Take a short drive into Uptown Martinsville where you can enjoy shopping, dining, arts and history. Live shows at the Black Box Threatre are a popular stop as well as concerts at the Rives Theatre. Enjoy watching artists at work at Studio 107 or marvel at the 10+ million artifacts at the Smithsonian-affiliated Virginia Museum of Natural History or one of the area's many other museums and historic sites.

Extend your stay by using Martinsville-Henry County for your base as you explore many nearby day-trip attractions such as the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Blue Ridge Folk Life Museum and Smith Mountain Lake.
