Take the kids to the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum, where they'll have so much fun they won't realize they're learning. This hands-on museum allows kids to see x-rays and to use real medical equipment. They'll see real dinosaur fossils dating back 600 million years and they can build a house, chair or bench using building supplies that fit together like giant Lincoln Logs!
Stop for lunch and ice-cream or pie as you stroll along the Old Town Pedestrian Mall. You won't want to miss taking the gang to the Incredible Flying Objects Store, to catch an awesome juggling demonstration or magic tricks. The staff will even teach you how to juggle! Kids love this store full of flying objects, games, and gags like whoopee cushions and trick bubble-gum.
Continue learning about large lizards at Dinosaur Land. Take a tour in this outdoor park filled with life-size models of prehistoric creatures. Don't forget to take a picture of your grandchild's face peeking out of the jaws of a sixty foot long shark!
Enjoy a morning learning about the Father of our Country, George Washington. Children of all ages enjoy the George Washington's Office Museum, where you can see pieces of his actual hair. The museum exhibit concentrates on George's earlier days surveying the wild frontier and then his later years, as the commander of Fort Loudoun during the French and Indian War. A life size statue of Washington as a surveyor makes for a great photo op.
Grandparents will enjoy taking the grandchildren to Marker-Miller Orchards, where, depending on the season, they will be able to pick peaches, green beans, or apples! Agricultural education about food growth can be fun, so plan to get your hands dirty!
After dinner, relax with a movie at the Family Drive-In. This old-fashioned drive-in theatre is one of a few remaining in Virginia! Children can enjoy the playground equipment before the show. Popcorn, cars, and movies, all under the stars!
