Enriched in history, Prince William County/Manassas is the best option for a heritage tour.
Visit the vast and well-known Manassas Battlefield Park. The place where General Lee once stood and two of the biggest battles were fought during the Civil War now stands as a national park with over 5,000 acres encompassing a visitors center, driving/hiking tours, bookstore, theatre and monuments.
For a lesson on Manassas, “the railroad” town, visit the Manassas Museum. Through artifacts and exhibits it explores the lives of its past inhabitants, contributions to the Civil War and is also host to a series of historic lectures year-round.
To take a look at all of the American wars through the eyes of the Marines, visit the new National Museum of the Marine Corps. This state-of-the-art facility houses giant tanks, fighter jets, as well as frigid temperatures in the Cold War exhibit. Stop by the recreated Tun Tavern or the Mess Hall for a bite to eat. Be sure to visit the museum store for your own personal memorabilia.
