Explore maritime history at The Mariners’ Museum, America’s National Maritime Musuem, home to the premier Civil War attraction in the country --- the USS Monitor Center. Discover our heritage through one of many educational programs available. Enjoy a windshield tour of Newport News and see where Ella Fitzgerald and Pearl Bailey were born and where Ava Gardner lived during her childhood. Then, tour The Newsome House Museum & Cultural Center, which served as the hub of the local African-American community. Next, visit the James A. Fields House, which today offers visitors a glimpse into the life of urban African Americans in Newport News during the 1900s.
