For The History Buff…

An area full of history and tradition, Radford is the perfect destination for those of us craving a taste for the past.

Begin at Arnheim, home to the namesake of the city, Dr. John Blair Radford. This historic home stands today with restoration initiatives currently in place.

Continue to Glencoe Museum, once home to Dr. Radford’s daughter and her husband General Gabriel Wharton. The building is currently open to the public as a museum and houses various exhibits highlighting the history of the city.

Ingles Farm, the historic home of William and Mary Draper Ingles, is open for tours and demonstrations seasonally. Come learn about the trek of this courageous woman as well as the Ingles Ferry and its significant spot in Virginia’s history.

Additional sites of interest include a Civil War Trail marker and St. Albans School for Boys, one of the most prestigious preparatory schools of a past century.
