Don't let Arlington's urban landscape intimidate you - with a high walkability rating, tons to do, and friendly, lively neighborhoods, Arlington is a great destination for families with children. Here are some things to add to your family's itinerary when you visit:

Let's start with restaurants. For pizza and pasta options, Joe's Place off of Lee Highway and California Pizza Kitchen in Pentagon City welcome family groups. For an all-American meal, try Five Guys Burgers and Fries on Wilson Blvd. in Courthouse and BGR The Burger Joint in Lyon Village on Lee Highway. In Clarendon, Whitlow's on Wilson Bar and Grill has a menu with lots of variety. Just be mindful that Thursday through Saturday, there's a pretty big post-work crowd. The Cheesecake Factory in Clarendon is always a family favorite and offers something for everyone. For a delicious brunch, try The Liberty Tavern in Clarendon. For Mexican, Uncle Julio's Rio Grande Café in Ballston and Chevy's Fresh Mex in Pentagon City are muy bueno.

Now that you're fueled up, it's time to soak up the sun with some outdoor fun. Arlington's parks have unique play features that make them perfect for entertaining your family. In the summertime, the splash and spray areas at Hayes Park, Lyon Park and Drew Park are perfect for kids to dash through on a hot day. Another fun place to explore is Gravelly Point, where you can play alongside the Potomac and marvel at D.C. views as you watch planes from Reagan National Airport take off and land.

If you're on the hunt for a skateboard mecca, Powhatan Springs Park has a 15,000 square foot area just for you. To amuse younger kids while you're there, the same park also has a children's rain garden, whose fun and interactive exhibit teaches about rain purification.

For some leisurely physical activity, play the 18-hole mini golf course in Upton Hill Regional Park. Suitable for all ages, this is an activity the whole family can enjoy. Or head down to Joint Base Myer – Henderson Hall instead for a few rounds of bowling. This spot is a favorite among locals for birthday parties and youth group outings.

Here in Arlington, we have countless public amenities to keep your kids entertained without emptying your wallet. Our neighborhoods are clean, well-marked and easy to get around. For the best place to stay with kids in the DC area, StayArlington!
