Located across the Potomac River from Washington, DC, Fairfax County is home to the first Virginia wineries you encounter outside of the Nation's Capital and is considered a gateway to Northern Virginia's legendary wine trails.  The Commonwealth's unique terrior creates wines that stylistically bridge the gap between those of California and Europe in the world's wine cellars. Better yet, you can visit two of Virginia's newest boutique wineries without even leaving Fairfax County:

Day 1

The Winery at Bull Run adjoins over 5,000 countryside acres of the historic Manassas National Battlefield Park providing you with a beautiful vista of preserved 19th century farmland. The working farm vineyard offers a glimpse of a rich Virginia heritage with winemaking techniques from the Civil War era and producing award winning wines. Next, make your way to nearby Vinifera Wine Bar & Bistro - named after the vine species that produces over 99% of all of today's wines and where you can pair inspired dishes with an assortment of over 300 local and international wines, elevating Vinifera from more than just a restaurant — to an experience. At days end take in an inspiring musical performance at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts. Wolf Trap hosts world-renowned performers year-round in their intimate winter venue, The Barns at Wolf Trap, and their immaculate summer outdoor amphitheatre the Filene Center. The Filene Center encourages patrons to pack a picnic basket, your favorite wine and spread out on the lawn to enjoy the show!

Day 2

Paradise Springs Winery has been owned by the same family since 1716 and is situated on 36 acres in Clifton, VA. – the property features an 1800's log cabin which was renovated in 1955 by a protégé of Frank Lloyd Wright - unique events and award-winning vintages please all who visit this historic property. After visiting "Paradise", take some time to visit the shops in the quaint Town of Clifton where you'll find everything from antique stores and bakeries to one of the top rated restaurants in the metro Washington, DC area Trummer's on Main. Finish off your day of "epicuriosity" and book tickets to a show at the esteemed George Mason University Center for the Arts, or by visiting the innovative collaboration of visual and performing arts in the unique historic center of a former prison The Workhouse Arts Center where interacting with the various artists on site is a part of the experience.
