Day One: Wake up in a B&B & smell the coffee perking downstairs. Take a leisurely breakfast & a walk down High St. to admire the historical buildings, stop by the Heartland Regional Visitor Center before joining the Annual Heart of Virginia Festival just beginning.
So much to see & do! Elegant artwork, one-of-a-kind crafts, exotic fruit drinks, music of all kinds, more food than you can imagine, antique cars, talent shows, a 10-K run: you get the idea.
In the evening the fun moves to the Farmville Airport with live bands til dark when a spectacular fireworks display begins.
Day Two: Rise early & head out to High Bridge Trail State Park for a brisk walk taking pictures of the sunrise over the historic bridge. The Bridge was the site of the last 2 skirmishes of the American Civil War. Look down on the left hand side of the bridge, you might see the moorings from the wagon bridge that the Confederates unsuccessfully tried to burn to keep the Union Army from making it across. The Union Army stopped the firing & used the bridge to continue the chase into Farmville preventing the Confederates from re-arming & re-supplying, hastening the end at Appomattox Surrender Grounds a few days later.
On the way back from the bridge, stop at one of the little bistros on Main Street for breakfast. Then, spend the day in the antique shops carrying something for everyone!
Stop for a late lunch, then rent a kayak to take a lazy trip down the Appomattox where you can get some wonderful pictures from under the High Bridge. The wildlife along the river is always ready to pose, too!
In the evening, after a nice supper over the Appomattox River, choose amongst several local theatrical opportunities marveling at the talent in these small towns!
Day Three: Upon checkout, enjoy brunch sitting over the Appomattox River before it’s time to head back to your world. Load your car with all the wonderful purchases you have made & start planning your return trip!
