The Bower Center for the Arts, under the umbrella of the Wharton Memorial Foundation, is a non-profit art center nestled in the heart of Bedford, Virginia at the corner of Bridge Street and Bedford Ave. The building itself has a rich history. The original structure was built in 1880 and the performance hall is housed in the old sanctuary. The natural acoustics create a wonderful setting for performing arts such as the free community concert with James String Quartet this winter and the After Jack modern bluegrass sold out performance. This summer will host the Second Annual Juried/Judged Exhibit, one of eight exhibits, both judged and invitational that are held each year. The Center houses seven artists' studios, a wealth of art and music classes for both adults and children. Our state of the art music lab rivals that of most colleges.
