Authentic traditional Appalachian mountain woodshop producing wooden farm tools, slat-back chairs, and related custom work. All work is done using original hand tools and techniques. In the foothills of the Alleghany mountains, near the town of Eagle Rock, there is what may be the last remaining woodshop still producing handmade hayforks and other wooden farm tools. Working alone, up in a narrow "hollar," Kevin Riddle carries on a style of traditional woodworking that is centuries old, but has almost been lost. Working in his shop between the chores that are required of a rural life, he crafts not only farm tools, but also ladder-back ("mule ear") chairs, and related custom work. Tours are gladly given, or he can bring a demonstration to you.
