After nearly a 200-year hiatus and a multi-million dollar reconstruction, George Washington's Distillery & Gristmill are back in business. Located at the original site, George Washington's Gristmill™ highlights his visions for America's future as "granary to the world;" while his distillery is the only site in North America that demonstrates 18th-century distilling from seed to barrel.

Costumed interpreters bring George Washington’s Distillery & Gristmill to life. Enjoy guided tours of both fully functioning reconstructions. Demonstrations of the operation of the gristmill are offered daily. On special occasions the entire 4-story Oliver Evans System is demonstrated.

At the distillery, interpreters discuss 18th-century fermentation and distilling techniques and show how the boiler, mash tubs, and copper pot stills function. On the second floor of the distillery a short History Channel video, George Washington's Liquid Gold, is shown and an exhibit, Spirits of Independence: George Washington and the Beginnings of the American Whiskey Industry, highlights over 200 years of spirit-related history in America.

Open daily April through October, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Admission Fee: Entrance to the site is included in admission to George Washington's Mount Vernon. Admission to the Gristmill & Distillery is also sold separately. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for youth ages 6-11 and free for children 5 and under.
