Monterey - March 14-15, 21-22 - The Highland Maple Festival - Designated a "Local Legacy” by The Library of Congress, this festival of 57 years, attracts upwards of 50,000 visitors from across the states. Sugar camp tours provide a unique and educational glimpse of a rapidly vanishing way of rural American life. Highlights of the festival include buckwheat and pancake breakfasts, maple donuts, locally harvested trout dinners, antiques, arts and crafts, bluegrass music and clogging demonstrations.
Salem - March 20-21 - NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship -Over 300 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball teams begin the season in November hoping to be playing in Salem in March as the National Championship is decided. The top four teams advance to Salem with two semifinal games on Friday and the Championship game played on Saturday. In addition to the NCAA Championship the Reese's NABC All Star game will be played on Saturday as well featuring the top twenty Division III players in the nation.

Newport News - March 13-15 - One City Marathon - The Inaugural Newport News One City Marathon is the Virginia Peninsula’s first full marathon. Runners will begin their journey in the stunning setting of Newport News Park where they will enjoy the allure of spring in a landscape as historical as it is beautiful. From there the next 26.2 miles will include the very best Newport News has to offer, finishing, and fittingly so, at the Newport News Victory Arch. The race will be followed by the One City, One Celebration in Victory Landing Park.
