    Axton - March 7 - Martinsville Mayhem Semi-Pro Football - The Martinsville Mayhem semi-professional football team plays their entire home schedule at the Smith River Sports Complex.

    Collinsville - March 14 - Family Kite Festival - Come out to Jack Dalton Park to play games, fly kites and see amazing demonstrations that would not be possible without the wind! Door prizes, kites and other fun things will be given out!

    Scottsburg - March 19-22 - Staunton River Spring Star Party - Join members of the Chapel Hill Astronomical and Observational Society for the spring Star Party. Astronomers from across the country converge on the park each spring and fall to peruse vendors' offerings, learn from guest speakers and presentations, and take advantage of the area's exceptionally dark night skies.

    Ridgeway - March 29 - STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway - Don't miss the high octane action as the drivers of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series roll out to take their stab at winning the infamous Grandfather Clock trophy and being crowned the champion.

     

     Heart of Appalachia

    Tazewell - March 1 - Wayne Henderson & Helen White - Wayne Henderson is a National Heritage Award recipient honored for his craftsmanship as a luthier and his renowned finger-style Appalachian guitar playing. A singer, fiddler, guitarist and tunesmith, Helen White has toured extensively with Wayne in the U.S. and Europe. Her compositions include works for theater and video projects as well as a Booklist honored recording of original songs for children. Don't miss this opportunity to see them performing together!

    Cedar Bluff - March 22 - Highlands Ballet Company in "The Wizard of Oz" - This is great American fairy tale that captures the magic of Kansas and shines a new dimension on the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and everyone’s favorite Cowardly Lion.

     

     Central Virginia

    Lynchburg - March 12 - Battle of the Ironclads - Come explore the history of the battle of the ironclads with John Quarstein!

    Richmond - March 13 - A Night with Mannheim Rocket - Historically Informed Performance by Mannheim Rocket Orchestra in their inaugural presentation playing Beautiful Beethoven Symphony No. 1 and Magical Mozart Symphony No. 40, on 200-year-old instruments.

    Wintergreen - March 14-15 - Slide & Splash Bash Weekend - We'll expand the terrain park to include all of Dobie. Plus who doesn't want to miss the pond skimming! The Park Party is on Saturday and Pond Skimming on Sunday, so plan to stay for the weekend! Costumes are required to enter the Pond Skimming.

    Charlottesville - March 15 - Fleetwood Mac: On With the Show - Fleetwood Mac's "On With the Show" tour is coming to Charlottesville, where they will be playing a collection of their greatest hits.

    Forest - March 15 - Poplar Forest Opening Day - Opening day! Poplar Forest resumes regular guided, daily tours and activities.

    Charlottesville - March 20 - Free Movie Friday, "Wild" - After years of reckless behavior and the destruction of her marriage, Cheryl Strayed sets out alone to hike more than a thousand miles on the Pacific Crest Trail.

    Altavista - March 21 - Avoca Museum presents Opera on the James - Performance by Opera on the James’ Tyler Young Artists program, 7:30 p.m. March 21, Avoca Museum. Features a mix of opera, operetta and musical theater. Free. Tickets required.

    Forest - March 27-28 - Barrels, Bottles and Casks Tour - Spend an evening at Poplar Forest sampling beverages and spirits served during Mr. Jefferson's time. Tours highlight the meals and drinks consumed at the plantation during Jefferson's time.

    Richmond - March 28 - The Virginia Green Travel Oyster Roast Celebration - Virginia Oysters, Virginia Green Certified Wines & Beer, Live Music, & Fun On The Bank on the James River to Celebrate Green Tourism and the Environment in Virginia.

    Roseland - March 28 - Bluegrass, Beer, and Bikes with Travis Book of The Infamous Stringdusters at Devils Backbone Brewing Company - Group mountain bike rides at 12PM and 6PM. Proceeds to benefit Charlottesville Area Mountain Bike Coalition.

     

     Shenandoah Valley

    Roanoke - March 1 - Race 13.1 - The race starts and finishes in beautiful downtown Roanoke along the river at Rivers Edge North, and the course will feature stretches of the picturesque Roanoke River!.

    Front Royal - March 7 - Irish Spring Festival - St Patrick's Day Festival featuring:Irish Music, Irish Dancers, Food and Craft Vendors, Pot of Gold Raffle, Kiss the Blarney Stone, Best Costume contest, Beer Garden with Souvenir Mug.

    Harrisonburg - March 9-15 - Taste of Downtown - Taste of Downtown is a week-long celebration of food in downtown Harrisonburg, Virginia's first culinary district.

    Monterey - March 14-15, 21-22 - The Highland Maple Festival - Designated a "Local Legacy” by The Library of Congress, this festival of 57 years, attracts upwards of 50,000 visitors from across the states. Sugar camp tours provide a unique and educational glimpse of a rapidly vanishing way of rural American life. Highlights of the festival include buckwheat and pancake breakfasts, maple donuts, locally harvested trout dinners, antiques, arts and crafts, bluegrass music and clogging demonstrations.

    Salem - March 20-21 - NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship -Over 300 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball teams begin the season in November hoping to be playing in Salem in March as the National Championship is decided. The top four teams advance to Salem with two semifinal games on Friday and the Championship game played on Saturday. In addition to the NCAA Championship the Reese's NABC All Star game will be played on Saturday as well featuring the top twenty Division III players in the nation.

    Roanoke - March 21 - Mill Mountain Zoo's Spring Fling - Enjoy spring themed crafts, get your face painted and of course see our great collection of animal residents. All of the activities are free with regular zoo admission!

     

     Coastal Virginia - Hampton Roads

    Newport News - March 13-15 - One City Marathon - The Inaugural Newport News One City Marathon is the Virginia Peninsula’s first full marathon. Runners will begin their journey in the stunning setting of Newport News Park where they will enjoy the allure of spring in a landscape as historical as it is beautiful. From there the next 26.2 miles will include the very best Newport News has to offer, finishing, and fittingly so, at the Newport News Victory Arch. The race will be followed by the One City, One Celebration in Victory Landing Park.

    Virginia Beach - March 14-15 - "Sleeping Beauty" by Ballet Virginia Int'l - Ballet Virginia International presents a ballet fit for a Princess. Be transported to a land of fairies, royal pageantry and a fated princess. Join the Lilac Fairy as she saves Princess Aurora and her kingdom from Carobosse’s evil and jealous spells. Watch as Prince Florimund awakes his Sleeping Beauty from her slumber. Love follows and a “happily ever after” brings the story to a spectacular end.

    Williamsburg - March 21-22 - Military Through the Ages - Re-enactment groups depicting centuries of military history join forces with modern-day veterans and active units to demonstrate camp life, tactics and weaponry.

    Onley - March 14 - The Tidewater Guitar Orchestra - The Tidewater Guitar Orchestra is an ensemble of accomplished guitarists who use the lush sounds of different size guitars to explore a rich repertoire.

    Blacksburg - March 5 - Kronos Quartet: Beyond Zero: 1914-1918 - Kronos Quartet: Beyond Zero: 1914-1918 features film drawn from archival material set to a new score for string quartet by Serbian composer Aleksandra Vrebalov.

    Meadows of Dan - March 8 - Driven Shoot - Primland introduces hunters to the uniquely magnificent shooting experience of Driven Pheasant Shoots.

    Blacksburg - March 25 - Crash Ensemble - Crash Ensemble is Ireland’s foremost contemporary music ensemble, world-class musicians who play the most adventurous, groundbreaking new music of today.

    Eggleston - March 27-28 - Celebrity Chef Dinner - 2015 Celebrity Chef Dinner featuring 6 courses of fine dining from chefs around the country benefiting the Giles County Summer Lunch Program.

    Fairfax - March 1 - Mark Morris Dance Group at George Mason University's Center for the Arts - Renowned for his commitment to setting his dances to live music, Mark Morris’s work is celebrated for its musicality, and he continues to experiment with the relationship between music and movement.
