The Blue Ridge Parkway and Chateau Morrisette

Floyd Country Store by Cameron Davidson

    Day 1:

Venture to Floyd, located in the Blue Ridge Highlands region of beautiful and rustic southwest Virginia. Bordered on the southeast by the Blue Ridge Parkway, Floyd is a small mountain town boasting music, art and wine.

Visitors to Floyd quickly find that music is the town's heartbeat. Old-time fiddlers, bluegrass banjo pickers, blues guitarists, African drummers and jazz cats collectively make this place a music lover's dream.

Do a little dancing and work up an appetite for an Appalachian-Latino-New Age dinner at the recently expanded Oddfella's Cantina, or grab a scrumptious creation from a local café before heading off to tap your toes at the famed Friday Nite Jamboree at Floyd Country Store. Admission is only $3 to enjoy live performances and local arts from 6:30 to 10:30 pm.

Stay the night at the secluded Oak Haven Lodge or Hotel Floyd, a Virginia Green certified accommodation in downtown.

    Chateau Morrisett

    Day 2:

Begin your day with a delicious breakfast at Cafe Del Sol and then head down the street to Bell Gallery and Garden. Many area artists have pieces displayed here, as well as in the other galliers around town.

Chateau Morrisette is both a relaxing and an exciting experience for anyone who enjoys fine wine, good food and natural surroundings. It is located at milepost 171.5 of the Blue Ridge Parkway, nestled above the Rock Castle Gorge Wilderness Area. Open seven days a week, visitors can tour the unique timberframe winery and spend the day enjoying wine tastings, innovative cuisine and seasonal events. Enjoy an elegant dinner while savoring foods from the American South in a relaxed old-world atmosphere at Chateau Morrisette’s restaurant. The chefs incorporate the finest regional ingredients including organically grown produce and game, fresh seafood, artisan cheeses and freshly baked breads.

After a fun-filled day at the winery, head to one of the area’s quaint bed and breakfasts for the night. Just two miles outside of Floyd is Bella La Vita Inn, a stunning accommodation just one mile off of the Parkway. Or choose Stonewall Bed and Breakfast, a spacious three-level log home just five minutes from the Town of Floyd.

    Mabry Mill

    Day 3:

Finish off your trip with a leisurely drive along the famous Blue Ridge Parkway. Pull over at your choice of several scenic overlooks and enjoy the Blue Ridge Mountains in all their glory. Be sure to stop at Mabry Mill, one of the most photographed rustic sites in America before going home.
