Virginia's Main Streets are aptly named - they have a little bit of everything and are truly hustling, bustling locales worthy of your visit. Try Staunton! Park the car and hop aboard the free trolley! It carries you around the town, drops you off near art galleries and restaurants, and offers a bit of nostalgia to your trip to the Shenandoah Valley.
Declared by Frommer's as "in itself, a reason to visit Staunton," the American Shakespeare Center's Blackfriars Playhouse is a magical theatre. It's the world's only recreation of Shakespeare's indoor theater, and you won't be disappointed. See performances of Henry V, Taming of the Shrew, King Lear and other masterful Shakespeare works.
Walking the streets of Staunton is a real treat. Cranberry's Grocery & Eatery, a Virginia Green certified restaurant, offers organic, Virginia-grown and made products. The Split Banana offers delicious site-made ice cream to cool you down from the shopping you're sure to do ... Grandma's Bait and Pufferbellies are just the beginning of all the neat shops you'll find!
The R.R. Smith Center for History & Art is but one place to see art exhibits on display, and is the regions only history and art center. For more art, a visit to Sunspots is a must! Traditional glass-blowing and copper work is done on-site, seven days a week. Be sure to pick out and take home a beautifully handcrafted treasure.
