Wake up from a great rest and enjoy breakfast with your host. Grab your camera and head out for a day filled with unparalleled views on the Blue Ridge Parkway, America's most popular scenic drive. Grab a signature boxed lunch from Doc's Diner as you travel along Route 460 West.
In Bedford, follow Route 43 to the Parkway. Lunch is available at the Peaks of Otter Lodge, or get out that boxed meal and enjoy a picnic on the lawn overlooking beautiful Abbott Lake. Head north on the Parkway for approximately 22 miles of the best "picture-taking" sites you'll find in Virginia.
Returning to Lynchburg down Route 501, it's time to head up Liberty Mountain to the Snowflex Center! Can you take the challenge? Ski, tube or snowboard on artificial snow with an elevated cornice drop, gravity-defying kickers, slick rails and a colossal quarter pipe. Riders are able to easily experience many of the freestyle elements found at a winter resort. If you are feeling a little squeamish, there is plenty of space for spectators at the SnowFlex Lodge!
Wind down in downtown at Waterstone Pizza on the riverfront. They're known for their fire roasted pizzas and home-crafted brews.
Enjoy breakfast again with your hosts before heading out for an exhilarating morning hiking and/or biking expedition. Start your morning downtown at the Visitor Information Center to pick up your copies of the Blackwater Creek Trail Guide and the Historic Districts walking tour. Follow the brochure through a spectacular architectural tour of homes in the Diamond Hill District, then head down to Blackwater Creek and enjoy the 9 miles of paved trail over the James River, across Percivals Island, through an old railroad tunnel and past Hollins Mill waterfall ... truly unforgettable.
Enjoy a late lunch at one of the many downtown eateries before saying goodbye to Lynchburg.
