Enjoy a Civil War Weekend where history comes to life at the Appomattox Court House National Historic Park. This is where General Robert E. Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia to Lt. General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865, which led to the end of the Civil War.
While you're here, also enjoy the outdoor recreation at Holliday Lake State Park or James River State Park. Activities include fishing, hunting, horseback riding, swimming, canoeing and camping!
Get back to history at the Clover Hill Living History Village, where you can experience daily life in the past (1840-1920) as you browse through the many historic buildings, including a log cabin, chapel, school, blacksmith shop, general store and post office. And don't miss the Appomattox County Historical Museum, which houses a turn-of-the-century one-room school, a doctor's office, a jail cell, plus numerous artifacts and interesting memorabilia of the past.
Other attractions include shopping in this quaint town of Appomattox. And for other ideas, visit the Appomattox Visitor Center located in the old train depot on Main Street.
