Getaway to the Central Virginia Wine Trail

The wineries of the Central Wine Trail and Monticello area fulfill a vision of Thomas Jefferson, whose aim was to produce exceptional quality wines like those he found on his travels to Europe.

Stay at The Foxfield Inn, located in one of Charlottesville's most picturesque country settings near a steeplechase track, only 7 miles from downtown Charlottesville.

Vineyards in this region include Keswick Vineyards at the historic Edgewood estate of Keswick Hall. Fourty-eight guest rooms are available in this country house hotel, as well as award-winning cuisine in its dining room.

Barboursville Vineyards, established in 1976 by the largest family-held winemaking enterprise in Italy, is located near the Barboursville Ruins. The ruins were once a fine residence designed by Thomas Jefferson for his friend James Barbour, who served as a Virginia Governor, U.S. Senator and Secretary of War.

Trump Winery, situated at the foot of Carter's Mountain and on Trump Vineyard Estates, was established in 1999 as the renowned Kluge Vineyard and Estate.

If you enjoy sitting back and taking a wine-tasting tour without the drive, contact Arcady Vineyard Wine Tours, who will escort small groups (2-10 people) to various area wineries.

Visit nearby University of Virginia, also designed by Jefferson and a not-to-be-missed piece of architectural history.

Another mainstay in the region is The Boar's Head, a 19th-century country resort with modern conveniences. You'll enjoy the Old Mill Room at Boar's Head, too. It's the only restaurant in Virginia to have retained AAA's Four-Diamond designation for 25 years in a row!
