Spend time and enjoy shopping while on The Wine Trail of Botetourt County and at our county’s first micro-brewery! Visit our three farm wineries, each offering distinct flavors of fine wines, spectacular views of the Botetourt County countryside and the Blue Ridge and Alleghany Mountains. Each winery has gifts that can be paired with their wines that are sure to please the wine enthusiast in your life.
Begin your day by hiking the wooded trails on the 300-acre estate that is Blue Ridge Vineyard or relax in the unique setting of the rustic barn that overlooks the mountains and enjoy a tour of the winery and vineyards. From Blue Ridge Vineyard, travel through the quaint town of Eagle Rock. Enjoy lunch at Maw and Paw’s Diner, where both the food and hospitality are well known.
After lunch, cross the mighty James River and you’re only minutes away from Virginia Mountain Vineyards where you can sample the variety of sweet and dry wines produced from 100% Virginia grown Vinifera vines. Enjoy a glass of your favorite wine as you relax in the gazebo or event center and absorb the surrounding beauty.
Enjoy dinner at one of our many restaurants. If you’re seeking a more casual fare, you’ll find everything from barbeque to family style. If fine dining is your preference, try The Pomegranate Restaurant and Gathering Place in nearby Troutville.
Travel through the Town of Troutville, a designated Appalachian Trail Community, on your way to visit Fincastle Vineyard & Winery. Learn how wine is produced using traditional Bordeaux small-scale techniques. Wander through the vineyards, tour the mountainside winery and sample Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay.
Leaving Fincastle Vineyard & Winery, enjoy the scenic drive as you head towards Flying Mouse Brewery where you’ll be shown the process of brewing beer commercially from grain to keg. Using a technique called “style bending,” Flying Mouse Brewery begins with established styles and develops their own versions of popular beers to appeal to a wide range of palettes. Sample light, medium and dark as well as seasonal beers from the tasting bar and enjoy a glass of your favorite in the outdoor patio space with views of beautiful Tinker Mountain.
