Festivities begin Friday evening, 6 pm with youth performances and an outdoor Dance On The Green, followed by a special presentation of “Honey, Baby Mine,” by storytellers and performers, Rema Keen and friends. Cake walks and pie walks, along with a raffle provide a welcoming, hometown flavor!
On Saturday, musicians of all ages will compete throughout the day in Youth Competition, individual instrument categories and duets, including dobro, guitar, fiddle, and banjo. Smaller cash categories for duclimer, harmonica, autoharp, and bass will be included, and ribbon categories for folk song and traditional dance. Noted historian Dr. Gregg Kimball will discuss Virginia mountain music in his presentation, “Sacred Songs of the Mountains: The Remarkable Career of Levi Vincen Jones,” at 6 pm. The induction of the 2015 honorees for Lifetime Achievement and a presentation of handmade wooden fiddle plaques will take place Saturday evening. A group jam of current and past honorees to “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” will follow the presentation. Band competition will begin and conclude on Saturday night and cash awards and ribbons will be presented to the competitors in all categories at the end of the evening.
A Gospel Sing and interdenominational church service will be held on Sunday morning.
