The Dismal Swamp Canal Trail is a multipurpose-use trail accommodating horse owners, bicyclists, walkers, joggers, and boat owners. The trail, actually the former U.S. RT. 17, is linear, running 8.5 miles along the Dismal Swamp Canal, which is the eastern edge of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Great Dismal Swamp Refuge. It is a nature and history devote's delight and an outdoor recreation playground for serious and casual outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Open sunrise to sunset.
