    Heart of Appalachia

    Ewing - May 9-10 - Cumberland Gap Dulcimer Gathering - The 8th annual Cumberland Gap Dulcimer Gathering offers delightful jam sessions, workshops, pot-luck meals, and a performance in the campground amphitheater.

    Ewing - May 9-11 - Raid at Martin's Station - Slip into the shadows of Virginia's 1776 frontier. A special program, which includes the drawing of the winning ticket for the Martin's Station Rifle Project, is yours to enjoy.

    Breaks - May 24-26 - Jubilee in the Breaks - We feature some of the finest in southern and bluegrass gospel music. Admission is free, love offerings are taken daily. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy.

     

     

    Central Virginia

    Montpelier Station - May 3-4 - Montpelier Wine Festival - The Montpelier Wine Festival is a premier spring event for the whole family.

    Arrington - May 3 - Nelson Downriver Canoe and Kayak Race - Nelson Downriver Canoe and Kayak Race. The 8 mile race on the lower Tye River is suitable for experienced canoe and kayak paddlers.

    Petersburg - May 3 - Rugged Maniac - Rugged Maniac strikes the perfect balance between fun and physicality with our day-long party and award-winning course.

    Richmond - May 10 - Cap2Cap Bike Event - Quarter-, Half-, and Full-Century rides, plus a 15-Mile Fun Ride, through picturesque Central Virginia countryside -- all to benefit the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation.

    Nellysford - May 12-19 - Celebrate American Craft Beer Week at Wild Wolf Brewing Company - American Craft Beer Week - Food & Beer Pairings, brewing classesk, beer tastings, beer taste challenge, and beer dinner.

    Richmond - May 16-18 - Dominion Riverrock - Dominion Riverrock is Richmond's premier river event.

    Gordonsville - May 17 - Gordonsville, VA "Famous Fried Chicken Festival" - Gordonsville is famous for its Fried Chicken, that was served to passengers of trains stopping in the Town of Gordonsville during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Chicken Festival will feature cook-off contests to judge special recipes for fried chicken, macaroni & cheese and homemade pies.

     

     

    Shenandoah Valley

    Staunton - May 1-2, 4, 7-8, 10, 16, 18, 22, 24, 28 - Othello by William Shakespeare - In this magnificently complex study of extremes, Shakespeare pairs his most loving and trusting leading man with his most conniving and ruthless villain in a dangerous dance of deceit and revenge.

    Waynesboro - May 3 - Waynesboro Riverfest - A free, family-friendly outdoor festival centering on Waynesboro's South River.

    Roanoke - May 4 - Valley Chamber Orchestra Spring Concert - Highlighting the 2014 Spring Concert for Valley Chamber Orchestra will be a concerto for marimba by Anders Koppel, played by Zubin Hathi. Other selections include cinema themes by John Williams and the whimsical Leroy Anderson composition, March for Two Left Feet.

    Roanoke - May 8 - Ronald McDonald House Annual Golf Tournament - This golf tournament helps to support families through their child's healing process. Help us to keep families together.

    Buena Vista - May 9-11 - Muster on the Maury – Living History in the Valley of Virginia - Step back into the 1860's and visit the Civil War living history encampment on the grounds of the historic Paxton House in Buena Vista, Virginia. Witness formation and weapons instruction, tactical camp drills, living history demonstrations and much more. Tentative plans include tours of the paxton House, Friday night picnic supper, Saturday night cookout, children's aqctivities and Sunday church service.

    Middletown - May 10 - Of Ale and History Microbrew and Imported Beer Tasting Festival - Fine foods, live bands and beer will be available at this festival from 11 am to 6 p.m, with beer tasting beginning at noon.

    Roanoke - May 10 - Caching in on Scenery: The Sixth Annual Amazing County Treasure Hunt - New and Experienced Geocachers Discover the Treasures at Roanoke County's Explore Park.

    Harrisonburg - May 13 - Court & Market Days - Experience a personal connection to a war that was fought in our backyard while exploring what life was like in the 1800’s.

    New Market - May16-18 - Reenactment of the Battle of New Market - Come and join us for the 150th Anniversary Battle of New Market Reenactment held on our original battlefield property. One of the oldest continual reenactments in the nation.

    Front Royal - May 17 - Virginia Wine & Craft Festival - Come and enjoy wine tastings from 20 of the best of Virginia wineries. Over 100 artisans and crafters from all over the east coast display fine handmade jewelry, candles, pottery, art, wood and iron works. If you are hungry, there will be a variety of regional foods, including the best BBQ in the Shenandoah Valley, or you may wish to step inside to one of our many restaurants located at the event site.

    Stephens City - May 22-24 - Newtown Heritage Festival - This free family-friendly festival takes place throughout Main Street, Stephens City. Craft show, parade and fireworks on Saturday, live music, children’s events, wagon rides, museum tours and more.

     

     Coastal Virginia - Hampton Roads

    Virginia Beach - May 2 - Joshua Bell and Joann Falletta at The Sandler Center - A Joshua Bell performance is "as close to perfection as anything on Earth. Bell's tone is a thing of rare beauty" (Seattle Times).

    Norfolk - May 3-4 - Annual AT&T Spring Town Point Virginia Wine Festival - The 7th Annual AT&T Spring Town Point Virginia Wine Festival, guests will enjoy two afternoons of sampling a wide selection of Virginia Wines in Town Point Park.

    Portsmouth - May 23-25 - Annual UMOJA Festival - An African-American cultural festival featuring food, music and unity. This year's featured headline concert on Saturday we welcome Chaka Kahan to nTelos Wireless Pavilion!

    Suffolk - May 31 - Virginia Regional Festival of Flight - Virginia Regional Festival of Flight - 100s of homebuilt and other aircraft on display. Hands-on activities for kids, free Young Eagles fights, age 8-17, on Sunday.

     

     

    Coastal Virginia - Eastern Shore

    Chincoteague Island - May 3 - Chincoteague Seafood Festival - Chincoteague Island has hosted a spring seafood festival for over 40 years.  All-you-can-eat, fresh, local seafood in abundance.  Live music, hospitality booths and an all-around good time.

    Chincoteague Island - May 10 - International Migratory Bird Celebration - International Migratory Bird Celebration ushers in spring on the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.  Fun crafts for kids of all ages.
