4th of July at Leesburg Courthouse Almost every community presents its own 4th of July Events, and they usually feature fireworks and music at the end of the day.

Many a patriotic tribute includes a hometown parade — usually involving kids on their decorated bikes and/or pets in costume — and down home contests like three-legged races, egg tosses and "best cherry pie."


Why not Celebrate Freedom in Virginia this year? After all, this is where freedom was won. It makes a great backdrop for your celebration, too.

Hike & Bike & Ride the Virginia Creeper Trail

It is bordered by fields and pastures, leading visitors to a beaver pond, frogs, cottontail rabbits, gray squirrels and red and gray foxes!

As many as 40 species of birds can also be seen in the meadows and woodlands.

Virginia Indian Heritage Trail
Building a hut at the Monacan Indian Village The Virginia Indian Heritage Trail was established to "portray the Virginia Indian in a proper light" and includes more of their story — which spans at least 10,000 years. Visitors to these historic sites can gain a deeper understanding of the Indians and their ancestors today.

A special American Indian Intertribal Cultural Festival at Hampton Coliseum on July 21-22, will focus on the contributions and cultures of Virginia Indians. The festival will highlight the similarities and differences among Virginia tribes as well as those tribes located in other regions of the country. This event is free to the public.
