It’s Harvest Festival Time

Indulge in delicacies from the sea at the Urbanna Oyster Festival, Nov. 2-3, a small-town festival featuring local oysters cooked every way imaginable. Enjoy waterfront activities, entertainment and the oyster shucking contest.

Learn how the English colonists and Virginia Indians gathered, preserved and prepared their food in the 1600s at the Food & Feasts of Colonial Virginia, Nov. 22-24 and 27-29, at Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center.

The First Official Thanksgiving in America is reenacted at the Berkeley Plantation First Thanksgiving Festival, Nov. 4, near Charles City. Watch a living a history program, enjoy tours of the manor house and taste delicious foods of the season.

    Birds on the Eastern ShoreVirginia is paradise for birdwatchers.  In November, two events on the Eastern Shore highlight Virginia’s prominent location as a prime destination for birdwatchers and wildlife photographers.

    The Assateague Island Waterfowl Week, Nov. 17-25, holds special guided walks and tours at the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge.

    The Deborah Waterfowl Show and Auction, Nov. 23-24 on Chincoteague Island, features decoy carvers as well as wildlife art and photography of the Eastern Shore.
