Fall in Virginia = Foliage, Festivals & Family Fun

Fall in Virginia is the most beautiful season for travel, with more than 60 percent of the state forested. Visitors can take advantage of some fall foliage packages, too.

Mountain regions start changing their colors by early September. Peak-color season in both the mountain and piedmont regions is usually from early October to early November.

Enjoy plenty of outdoor Fall Festivals this year as well bushels of opportunities for picking apples at Virginia's orchards, riding hay wagons to the pumpkin patches and finding your way out of some adventurous corn mazes!

Outdoor sports and activities in the fall can be everything from hiking numerous nature trails and wildlife-conservation areas to biking along 838 miles of mapped biking routes and stopping at award-winning wineries.

Enjoy camping, learn fly fishing, and drive Virginia's newest heritage trails — Virginia Indian Heritage and Coal Heritage. This is the season for popular steeplechase races, battlefield reenactments and motorsports, too.
