    November is Virginia Oyster Month!

      Celebrate with a special pairing or by attending a festival. With seven distinct oyster regions, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the diverse tastes that await.

    Coastal Virginia - Hampton Roads

    Norfolk - Nov. 2-7 - Chesapeake Bay Seafood Sail - Enjoy scenic fall foliage views and crisp breezes while dining on the Bay's delicious seafood.

    Charles City - Nov. 2 - Virginia Thanksgiving Festival at Berkeley Plantation - Join us for a day dedicated to history, food and fun with tours of the 1726 manor house, a living history program, tribal dancers, arts, crafts and jewelry vendors, choral music, traditional Thanksgiving dinner and a re-enactment of the Landing of Capt Woodlief & his men.

    Suffolk - Nov. 15 - American Girl Program: Meet Josefina Montoya - Josefina Montoya is a hopeful, caring, faithful girl. She is growing up in 1824 New Mexico, a place of sweeping big skies and hard work, danger and dreams. In Josefina’s stories, she and her family watch their old ways cross paths with the new as Americano traders arrive from the east. Josefina is lucky to have her family and faith to guide her through all the changes in her life! We will be giving away a Josefina Doll to one of the girls who attend. Ages 5 and up; reservations required.

    Williamsburg - Nov. 22-23 - Colonial Williamsburg Employee Arts and Crafts Show and Sale - Colonial Williamsburg employees, volunteers and retirees combine to present and sell handmade gifts. Fabulous jams and handmade jewelry are only a portion of the wonderful items available for personal enjoyment or as a special gift for that certain someone.

    Williamsburg - Nov. 29 - Wine, Wit & Wisdom - Executive Chef Rhys Lewis will take you on a tour of the world's best wines paired with artisan cheeses, rich chocolate, and a sampling of sparkling wit. Each session offers unique insights on a specific wine-growing region or type of wine.

     

     

    Coastal Virginia - Eastern Shore

    Machipongo - Nov. 8 - Merroir & Terroir - Oyster Extravaganza - Seven oyster varietals will be sampled with Chatham's Chardonnays followed by a traditional Eastern Shore oyster roast and clam steam.

    Chincoteague Island - Nov. 27-30 - Assateague Island Waterfowl Weekend - Assateague Island Waterfowl Weekend focuses on the fall migration of waterfowl with arts, crafts and workshops for all ages. Special drives in the Wildlife Refuge available.

     

     

    Blue Ridge Highlands

    Blacksburg - Nov. 11 - Roanoke Symphony Orchestra - The Roanoke Symphony Orchestra will bring a beautiful masterworks program to Blacksburg once more with new work by composer Jeff Midkiff.

    Radford - Nov. 14-15 - The Nutcracker at Radford University - The Radford University Ballet Theatre presents The Nutcracker, a holiday favorite for the whole family. This magical work will feature internationally recognized guest artists.

    Abingdon - Nov. 22 - Christmas Tree Lighting at Heartwood - Join us at Heartwood as we kick off the holiday season with our annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony!

    Bristol - Nov. 24 - Downtown Christmas Open House - Downtown Bristol Christmas open house is a customer appreciation night where merchants stay open late, have special discounts, and refreshments are served at participating locations.

    Manassas - Nov. 7 - Fall Gallery Walk - The merchants of Old Town Manassas play host to various artists with refreshments and the opportunity to meet the artist in person.

    Woodbridge - Nov. 8 - Before the Blackburn’s: Native Americans of Virginia - Long before Richard Blackburn built Rippon Lodge, many Native American tribes resided along the banks of the creeks and rivers of Virginia. Under Chief Powhatan, the Mattaponi, Rappahannock, and Pamunkey tribes all prospered. Hear stories, play traditional games and lean about Native American history and culture.

    Herndon - Nov. 12-15 - World of Color Expo - The most amazing Art Expo to hit the East Coast in a decade. Attendees my register for classes, view painting demonstrations, enter the world of our Exhibit Trade Floor, and browse/shop for that special item, needed painting supplies or new painting products. All are open to the public with no prior painting experience.

    Fairfax - Nov. 16 - L.A. Theatre Works presents "In the Heat of the Night" - John Ball’s timely novel became an Academy Award-winning film and an Emmy Award-winning television show, as well as a series of subsequent novels. This stunning stage adaptation is written by acclaimed playwright Matt Pelfrey.

    Manassas - Nov. 30 - Chanticleer presents "A Chanticleer Christmas" at the Hylton Performing Arts Center - Listening to the lush, flawless harmonies of these twelve male voices as they sing Christmas songs from across the ages is a perfect way to begin celebrating the holiday season.

     

     

    Southern Virginia

    Martinsville - Nov. 6-9, 13-15 - 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee: the Musical - An eclectic group spell their way through a series of potentially made-up words. At least the losers get a juice box. Hilarious and touching stories.

    Danville - Nov. 8 - AAF Tank Museum Radio Control Tank Battles - See radio control tankers battle for control of a Belguim town. Realistic sound - hear the engines of these small monsters rev-up for battle action. Battles, campaigns are fought and won. Tankers from all over the US come to this 6,000 sq ft battlefield to see who becomes the victor.

    South Hill - Nov. 12 - Shriner's Seafood Festival - Tickets are $25 and include fried and steamed shrimp, fried fish, baked beans, cole slaw, hushpuppies, iced tea and complimentary beverages.

     

     

    Chesapeake Bay

    Urbanna - Nov 7-8 - Urbanna Oyster Festival - It's the 56th year for this succulent festival, so come rejoice and shuck away! The fun includes a shucking contest, Oyster Festival Parade, lots of entertainment, arts and crafts, waterfront educational activities, antique cars on display, and so much more. It's the festival to challenge all festivals!

    Irvington - Nov. 22 - Taste by the Bay: Wine, Food, Arts & Ale - Featuring local winery, brewery and restaurant samplings, live music and artisans. Hosted at the Tides Inn in Irvington, VA. Taste what the Chesapeake Bay region has to offer!

     

     

    Heart of Appalachia

    Hiltons - Nov. 15 - Tune Town Old Time Band - The Carter Family Fold is a place where you will always feel welcome and can count on great music.

    Gate City - Nov. 22 - Annual Santa Train Special - The Santa Train marks the beginning of the holiday season for towns and stops along the train's 110-mile route from Elkhorn City, Kentucky thru Virginia, and finally ending in Kingsport, Tennessee.

     

     

    Central Virginia

    Richmond - Oct. 30-Nov. 2 - Fire, Flour & Fork - A highly curated mix of dining events (including an Urban State Fair), demonstrations, talks, food producers, distillers, craft beer producers, cookbook authors and visiting chefs with Virginia ties.

    Afton - Nov. 8 - Chocolate Festival at Rockfish Valley Community Center - Chocolate Festival at Rockfish Valley Community Center. Music, a chocolate fountain, cupcake and candy making, a puppet show, a silent auction and several chocolate workshops.

    Richmond - Nov. 9 - Carytown Food & Wine Festival - The Carytown Merchants Association is proud to once again host Carytown Food & Wine Festival "A Taste of Carytown".

    Mechanicsville - Nov. 28 - Holiday Illumination - Polegreen kicks off the holiday season with its grand illumination of the silhouette structure. Join us for the lighting of the church.

    Quicksburg - Nov. 8 - Shenandoah Uncorked Wine Festival - Shenandoah Uncorked Wine Festival at Shenandoah Cavern's Yellow Barn is a family friendly Fall festival showcasing Virginia wine, food and crafts.

    Staunton - Nov. 9 - The Bach Project - Harpsichordist Carsten Schmidt completes the multi-year Bach Project, performing all of Bach's keyboard works in recital.
