Located in the center of the hub of the Hampton Roads region, Smithfield is the "Ham Capital of the World" and is known for its historic architecture, which can be appreciated on the popular Smithfield Historic District Walking Tours. The town was first colonized in 1634 by early settlers of Jamestown.
Main Street Smithfield is a delightful shopping area and features antique and specialty stores. Visitors will enjoy the bronze people sitting in the town square.
The outdoor enthusiast can enjoy water sports on the James River, and during the hunting season, deer, wild fowl and small game are plentiful. Cypress Creek Golfer's Club is a popular course and open to the public.
