The town of Clintwood is in Dickinson County in the southwest area of Virginia's Heart of Appalachia region. Serious hikers and horseback riders will love Pine Mountain Trail, a scenic trail which follows the crest of the Cumberland Mountains dividing Virginia and Kentucky.

Clintwood is one of the towns along The Crooked Road: Virginia's Heritage Music Trial and is home to the Ralph Stanley Museum and Traditional Mountain Music Center, one of the major sites along the trail.
