Live Passionately - Virginia is For Lovers

Halifax County

Halifax County is located in the south-central Piedmont region of Central Virginia. It is bordered on the south by the state of North Carolina. The town of South Boston in the county is home to the South Boston Motor Speedway, a NASCAR-sanctioned race track that has been host of Busch Series Grand National Racing since 1982 and is recognized as the world's fastest short track. It is also home to NASCAR drivers Ward and Jeff Burton. Virginia International Raceway, America's Motorsport Resort, also is here.

Halifax County offers a tremendous variety of paddling options; each of its four rivers has a distinctive character, and its two lakes and several creeks provide further unique trips.

The Prizery features cultual events, theatre and musical performances and art exhibits. A walking tour of downtown South Boston highlights the city's industrial, commercial, and residential development from the 19th century to the 1930s.

One of the most popular Virginia events is the annual Cantaloupe Festival in Halifax!
