Hanover County

Hanover County is located on the northern edge of the Richmond metro area in the Central Virginia region and is the largest county, at 473 square miles.

One of the main draws to Hanover County is Kings Dominion in Doswell, a major amusement and theme park with more than a dozen roller coasters and other thrill rides.

Patrick Henry lived in Hanover County at Scotchtown, and he represented the county during the years leading up to the American Revolution. He practiced law in the Hanover County Courthouse, which is still in service today.

Civil War action took place in the county, such as the Seven Days Battle and Cold Harbor, and many buildings used as hospitals and field headquarters still stand today.

Ashland is the largest city in Hanover County. Visitors describe it as "Mayberry-like" with its old fashioned shops downtown and the railroad that runs right down Main Street.
