Locality: Louisa County P.O. Box 1838 Louisa, VA 23093 Green Springs National Historic Landmark District is a 14,000 acre agricultural landscape. The rich soils of the Green Springs basin have sustained farming for over 270 years; human activity has been in relative harmony with the land, enhancing rather than detracting from it. Thirty-five homes and buildings are listed on the National Regisiter of Historic Places and represent a continuum of rural Virginia vernacular architecture. Over 8,000 acres are held in conservation/preservation easements by the National Park Service, Virginia Department of Historic Resources and Historic Green Springs, Inc. A brochure on the district is available at Maddox Store, at the corner of VA 613 and VA 640, and the district and homes can be viewed from the roads. Telephone: Phone: Website: www.nps.gov/grsp/ |
