Virginia Governor's Mansion - Richmond, VA

Region: Central Virginia
Locality: Richmond City

Capitol Square
1111 East Broad Street
Richmond, VA 23219

Visitors revel in the rich history and charming stories of the Executive Mansion. The oldest, continuously occupied governor's residence in the United States, this Federal-style structure has been the home of Virginia Governors and their families since 1813. Today's residents include Governor Bob McDonnell and his wife, Maureen and their family.

The Mansion, which is both a Virginia and National Historic Landmark, was restored and furnished with antiques in the early 20th century. The original rooms across the front of the mansion contain most of their original woodwork, plaster cornices, and ornamental ceilings. During the Civil War, the Mansion served as the center of state leadership, when Richmond was the Capitol of the Confederate States of America.
