Blue Ridge Country Dancers host community contra dances every second Saturday at Winter Sun Theater, downtown Floyd. Contra dance evolved from traditional roots (Virginia Reel) into what is now a lively mix of music styles and dance figures for all ages.

The event is held in a vintage sewing factory with a wooden floor that's perfect for dancing. Second Saturday contra dances continue through June. For upcoming bands and callers, see website: www.floydcontradance.org.

Dance 8-11 PM; beginner lesson 7:35. Casual. Wear soft flexible shoes for dancing; callers teach each dance. Don't be shy, live music is good for listening, but great for dancing! Singles welcome. Reduced "listener only" admission. Blue Ridge Country Dancers: an all volunteer, not-for-profit affiliate of the Country Dance and Song Society: www.cdss.org.
